Mastering SSC CGL Typing (DEST)

The SSC CGL typing test online is a mandatory part of the Tier 2 exam for almost all posts. Candidates have to type a passage of about 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes. This might sound easy, but doing it with high accuracy on a computer screen needs real practice.

Our SSC CGL typing practice simulator is built to match the exact environment of the official SSC exam. From the way symbols look to how the scroll bar works, everything is identical. This helps you build "muscle memory" and confidence before the big day.

Pro Tip: SSC CGL typing is on-screen. This means the passage is on the top, and you type at the bottom. You don't need to look at any paper!

How SSC Checks Your Performance

In SSC CGL typing test, your accuracy is everything. SSC counts "Net Speed" and total errors. Even if you are fast, you will fail if you make too many mistakes.

Full Errors

SSC will deduct 1 full word for these:

  • •Every skipped word
  • •Every added extra word
  • •Every word typed incorrectly
  • •Swapping words in a line

Half Errors

SSC will deduct 0.5 words for these:

  • •Spacing mistakes between words
  • •Wrong usage of Capital letters
  • •Spelling mistakes in a word
  • •Wrong punctuation usage

SSC CGL 30-Day Practice Roadmap

If you are a beginner, follow this timeline for your ssc cgl typing practice.

1

Day 1-7: Touch Typing

Learn the home row, top row, and bottom row. Practice typing without looking at the keys. Use small words to set your fingers correctly.

2

Day 8-20: Accuracy Focus

Start typing 15-minute paragraphs. Don't worry about speed. Try to keep your error rate below 3%. Fix every mistake using backspace.

3

Day 21-30: Exam Simulation

Use our simulator once every morning and evening. Type for the full 15 minutes. Aim for 2200 key depressions to be safe for the real 2000 key test.

Tips for On-Screen Skill Test

Keep your eyes only on the screen. The passage is right above your typing box.

Practice scrolling with the keyboard or mouse quickly if the passage is long.

Learn to ignore the people around you typing loudly. Focus on your screen.

Check for repeated words. SSC examiners often use them to confuse candidates.

Special Note on CPT (Higher Standard) Posts

For standard posts, the error limit is 20% to 30%. However, for posts with "Higher Standards" (previously CPT posts), the typing error limit is much stricter (usually around 5% to 7%). Practice for high accuracy if you want to join CSS, MEA, or Excise Inspector posts.
